How Hard Is It To Get College Football Scholarships?

College football scholarships can be difficult to get, so how can you get your son a football scholarship?

In this day and age of declining economy, it's a wonder any college sports scholarships are even available anymore. Just how hard is it for our high school graduates to get football scholarships?

First and foremost, it is highly important for the student to focus their main goals in succeeding in academics. Chances are greater for the football player who is knowledgeable in academics and maintains a good GPA (grade point average). In fact, a lot of times it is mandatory before they will even consider it.

Not always in all cases, though. There are some coaches who will grant college football scholarships by simply asking you a few questions. Some of these questions would include the reason you should be granted a scholarship. There are guidelines that you must also follow while you are in the process of qualifying for college football scholarships.

The NCAA and NAIA have a process that both the parents and the student must fulfill before considering any college sports scholarships.

Many college recruiters and coaches are finding it more and more common the fact that the students aren't submitting their athletic profiles correctly. For example, they leave important things out. Not to mention they aren't submitting them to the proper college. Because of this, it is best for them to go through a recruiting agency.

As far as the NCAA is concerned, they are allocated the ability to grant eighty five college football scholarships in each division 1 football program for the I-A. Then there are sixty three college football scholarships for I-AA. There are also thirty six college football scholarships that are awarded in divison 2. They stress to all high school football players that, although this is still a game, college football is nothing to goof off about.

This is serious business and they want you to attend a few of the games so that you can definitely see just how serious it is. Also, you need to be aware that only elite and serious players will even be approached for acceptance. The standards are much higher, but don't let that fool you. You are still in the game. It just takes serious play and a good athletic attitude.

You don't always have to have a recruiter but when it comes to being professional, it is impressive to colleges. Not to mention, you are also responsible to market yourself. You have to sell yourself as a great player or you can have a recruiter vouch for you. Either way, if you don't know marketing tactics, it is highly recommended that you find a recruiter.

There are top notch colleges that are looking for the best. They are considered to be in NCAA Division I and the schools are the best of the best. Some examples include Princeton, Yale, Michigan State, Florida State, Kansas State and UCLA. It is extremely difficult to obtain college football scholarships through these schools. You definitely must possess high scores all the way around the board. This is not the hardest to get into though.

The competition doesn't really start until you try to obtain college football scholarships in the NCAA Division II. Since the average player will rank in this department and there are many average players, it is the hardest to get into because it makes up the rest of the schools.

There are a few other leagues that you cannot obtain college football scholarships from and one of them is the Ivy League. This is made up of some great top notch colleges but the league doesn't offer any form of college sports scholarships.

They are more focused on academics versus football. These schools are Harvard and Yale, for instance. So if you are a football player at Yale, most likely you are not only smart in academics, you are a great football player as well. Some do in fact fit into this category.

A lower ranking partial football scholarship can be awarded by the NAIA. This is an alternative to the NCAA Divisions. For the most part they give partial college sports scholarships that would be combined with an academic scholarship. They say that they do get more playing time and even access to scholarship money.

There is another Division called Division III. There are about 235 football programs in the country. What they do to obtain the best of athletes because they don't offer your average athletic scholarship, is they offer scholarships for what is needed and that is academics.

There are a few ways that you can earn football scholarships. With all the facts laid out and the schools that you would like to play for, in mind, you can pursue your desire to play with the big boys. It doesn't have to be difficult. Just know that you do have to sell yourself as both an athletic football player and a smart football player with some form of professionalism.

All of these will give your potential school the impression that you will be a well balanced player. Well hey, of that doesn't work or you just don't think that you have it in you, get a recruiter to help out.
