Christian Scholarships That Are Sports Related

The Christian scholarships that will be discussed here will focus on college sports scholarships and the availability of sports scholarships, if any, at Christian focused colleges.

Every high school senior hopes to go to college. Unfortunately for many, the financial burden is one that defeats them. Let's face it, going to college is expensive and the ordinary, run of the mill family cannot foot a bill like that.

The median cost of division 3 colleges is around $28,000 per year. Some include housing while others don't. That expense (housing) can add $7000 or more to that total.

College sports scholarships whether or not they are Christian scholarships, are vital.

If you want to talk about a division 1 school like USC, Yale or Harvard, we can safely state that the tuition can easily run twice that amount, if not more.

So how can a prospective student and their family afford such an expense? Mainly through the use of Christian scholarships, college sports scholarships and financial aid offered at each individual university.

College sports scholarships are offered for many reasons. The main one is for sports activity and depending on the athlete, can cover a full tuition for four years. College coaches will start recruiting high school seniors early in the school year. Each coach has a recruiting budget. I believe, if I read the information correctly, that the median recruiting budget is around $5000 a year for this purpose. christian college scholarships

College sports scholarships are available for all students whether they are attending a Christian focused school or not. Some colleges will have a religious affiliation. It should be noted that this does not affect the quality of the education. By law, a college cannot require religious studies as a part of the curriculum, but some do require students to attend a specific amount of services per month.

So whether you are a practicing Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist or whatever, Christian scholarships for sports are available to you. These college sports scholarships are based on ability, records kept by the high school coaching staff and videos of games played. Students can even get a DVD of their season highlights from their high school coach to send to prospective Christian colleges.

Most Christian based colleges do have on campus Christian scholarships for sports available. They nay not have the full complement of sports programs, but can have a nice, rounded offer for you. Some schools excel at football, others at baseball, yet others at swimming or other sports.

Aside from school based Christian scholarships, there are also scholarships available from outside sources. Here are a few web sites that you can look into. Some focus on Christian scholarships and schools and some focus on Christian students looking for aid.

There are websites out there that help student-athletes find the appropriate Christian college scholarships.

Some will help prospective students find scholarships and grants to help pay for school and will even separate grants from scholarships for a more in-depth view. There is also a "total cost" option that lets you narrow your search based on a price range.

At some websites you can perform a general scholarship search that is supplemented by a student to scholarship "wizard" that matches the two. This allows for a more comprehensive search of the Christian scholarships available.

There are other sites that list over 1.3 million scholarships to help students finance their education. There is also a list of national, local and college-specific scholarships to help Christian students find even more financial aid.

You can get ideas on various ways to find financial aid for school through the internet and your school. This includes student loans and even military aid that may be available.

Some sites provide lists of college sports scholarships and Christian scholarships from 3000 different sources and matches students to scholarships based on interest, academics and other criteria. They also offer students the option to receive mails concerning new scholarships or on approaching deadlines for existing ones.

In addition to these aids and places to look for Christian scholarships, private companies also offer scholarships each year. Some are huge companies like Coca-Cola, Tylenol and others. You can use the resources above to find these. Most have early deadlines so must be applied for well before graduation.

There is one more that deserves a mention here. That is Christian scholarship services that offer a connecting service for students and schools. They tout themselves as "The FREE Christian higher education resource center" and that is exactly what they supply. There is a plethora of information available here on schools and scholarships.

They can also sponsor a drawing for a $2500 scholarship. Not sure if this is per year or whatever, but it is still an option that bears looking into.

Christian students can find scholarships, grants and other financial aids in many ways. Many web sites offer a scholarship search for a fee. These are really not a great idea as I heard one story about someone who paid $300 and the service only found them $200 in aid. Need I say more?

However, there are a couple very good companies out there that can market your abilities far more effectively than you ever could yourself and they can indeed get you the college sports scholarships you're looking for!

Sports scholarships in general are the most lucrative way to pay for part or all of your college education. If you are an athlete of any type, look at schools that have a decent program for your sport and contact them directly. Have them come look at you during the season and ask them about college sports scholarships. You may be surprised at what you find if you just ask.

Christian scholarships and all college sports scholarships in general are available to Christian students as well as non-Christian students. In this respect, the competition is fierce as other athletes are doing the same thing you are, namely trying to pay for school.

A good idea is to start your college prospecting as a freshman and call the coaches back every once in a while. If you generate enough interest, you will get looked at in your senior year. This is true only if you are a standout athlete or are, at the very least, very good at your particular sport.

So if a college sports scholarship sounds like the solution for you, take a look at the resources above and do some searching around. What you find will help pay the out of pocket expenses left over after all the schools based scholarships, grants and loans are exhausted.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want and sell yourself as well. College sports scholarships if they are Christian scholarships or not, can pay for most of a college education, sometimes all of it.
